Laura Heins is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures. She received both her doctoral and masters of philosophy degrees in German Studies and Film Studies from Yale University and is the author of the forthcoming book The Domestic War: Film Melodrama and German Fascism (under contract with University of Illinois Press / 2013). Her work has also been published in A Companion to Rainer Werner Fassbinder (Wiley-Blackwell, 2012), Screen, Exiles Traveling: Exploring Displacement, Crossing Boundaries in German Exile Arts and Writings 1933-1945(Amsterdam: Rodopi, 2009), and A New History of German Cinema, eds. M. Richardson and J. Kapczynski (Camden House, September 2012). In April 2012, Ms. Heins was awarded the University of Virginia Alumni Board of Trustees Teaching Award.
